Mrs. J. P. Wheat funeral services held on Sunday
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Grace Chapel Baptist Church for Mrs. J. P. Wheat, 77, who died Friday at Methodist Hospital in Hattiesburg after an illness of several months. Rev. C. O. Creel and Rev. Chester Moore officiated.
A native of Ft. Worth, Tex., Mrs. Wheat had lived in Forrest County for 30 years. She was a charter member of Grace Chapel Baptist Church and active as long as her health permitted.
Burial was in Brooklyn Cemetery with Quigley's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. S. C. Humphries of Route 6, Hattiesburg; Mrs. J. E. Essary of Route 1, Brooklyn; Mrs. W. W. Green, Jr. of Hattiesburg; si sons, W. H. Wheat of Little Rock, Ark.; Fred Wheat of Route 2, Purvis; E. H. Wheat of Memphis, Tenn.; B. B. Wheat of Route 2, Wiggins; R. C. Wheat of Route 6, Hattiesburg; and J. V. Wheat of Dallas, Tex.; one brother, O. W. McGee of Northport, Ala.; 33 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews.
Grandsons served as pallbearers. They were Leon Essary, Howard Wheat, Richard Wheat, Tillman Wheat, Bill Miller and Johnny Humphries.
